720 Productions: Frequently Asked Questions
Things you might want to know about 720 Productions.
WHEN WAS 720 PRODUCTIONS FIRST SET UP?
720 Productions was set up in late 2005 by Gareth Parker, as a professional theatre production company. However, as a writer, director and actor, Gareth quickly also wanted to develop feature films, so the remit was expanded.
WHERE DOES THE NAME COME FROM?
That's a story of legend, a story of sheer fate and destiny... maybe. While Gareth was developing Frozen for production at this year's 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, it became clear he also had to register the production company to go with it. Thinking quickly, he named it 720 Productions, which takes its' name from his DELL 720 printer, where all his draft scripts first come into the world... Not quite as exciting as the story behind Joss Whedon's Mutant Enemy Productions ident... look that story up online!
WHAT ARE YOUR AIMS?
To build the company up, slowly and surely! As we want 720 Productions to be a mark that means professional quality, we are going to take our time, developing our projects and properties with consideration and care. The overall aim is to help new talent break out to a wider audience, and work with established individuals and groups to create new productions for all to enjoy.
Also, as a small company, we are limited by the amount of work we can take on, so to start with, all our projects will be "in-house". However, in time it's hoped that 720 Productions can expand further into Television, and maybe even, Comic and Graphic Novel production...
In other words, if we have a great idea, and it's worth pursuing, 720 Productions will get behind it!
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN CO-PRODUCTIONS?
Of course we are! However, again, we are a small company, so at this stage, purely for budgetary reasons, we can only seriously consider small-scale theatrical productions or low-to-no-budget features. But if you have a project you'd like to bring to us, send us an email (also see WHAT CAN YOU DO? below).
ARE YOU A BRITISH COMPANY?
How did you guess? Yes, we are a British production company and proud of it - while our media industry may at this time being suffering heavily, there is still a lot of untapped talent in the United Kingdom, and we, hope in time, to bring that to peoples' attention!
COULD I WORK FOR 720 PRODUCTIONS?
Ummm, sort of. Again, we're new, money's tight... In other words, if you're London-based, keen, got a good track-record anywhere in theatre production, or bags of enthusiasm, can behave professionally, and willing to work on a voluntary basis (to begin with, we'd all like to earn a wage too!), along with a lot of good humour, then we'd consider you. As I'm sure you may be aware that when many theatre companies start, there is very little money to spread around to actually pay people, so a lot of 2006 is going to be down to people's enthusiasm and good-will!
The main thing we'd be excited to about now would be to hear from actors and small-scale theatrical production crew to help support our first stage shows - we'd like to build up a database of people keen to work with us, so should a window be open to you, we can see if you'd want to be involved!
We also appreciate that at this time, we're untested, so if you'd rather wait until you know about us, we totally understand.
WHAT CAN'T YOU DO AT THIS STAGE?
See this $400 million Jerry Bruckheimer screenplay, or this new US Network SF Series? Seriously, the only thing we're limited by at this time is money and budgets. So if you want to bring us the touring rights to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Doctor Dolittle, or Mary Poppins, for example, then unless you have the money to stage it, we can't help you. We're, for the time being, strictly small-scale theatre and film only. Unless you do have the money and would like us to bring our expertise to a larger-budget project, then I'm afraid we can't help you out!
We're small, and we want 720 Productions to grow in time, please remember that!
SO, WHAT CAN YOU DO AT THIS STAGE?
As 720 Productions is being set up, it's reliant on the good-will and support of a lot of people giving their time for free towards professional productions. Therefore limited-run theatre, new writing from unknown talent and low-budget features are the best we can offer to produce at this time, but all to the highest possible standards. However, we do have plays to push on and expand into other media, but as with all these things, it's going to take time, more money and careful development of properties. Please be aware that if you would like to bring a project to 720 Productions, then we'd consider your pitch, but that is no guarantee it would proceed with us, and given how small we are, 2006 is already booked up for in-house development and production. So it would be, at the earliest, 2007 before we could realisitically consider anything else... But this is theatre and film, things change, projects move around on production slates, so... who knows? In other words, we'd never say never.
WHO BUILT THE WEBSITE?
That's Gareth again.
